HelpSquad is looking for an experienced Surgery Authorization & Insurance Benefits Specialist to support a US-based podiatry practice. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience verifying surgical benefits, handling prior authorizations, and communicating with insurance companies and patients.
The practice is looking for someone knowledgeable, detail-oriented, and dependable who wants to grow into a long-term role with the team.
Key Responsibilities
Verify patient eligibility and insurance benefits for scheduled surgical procedures.
Explain surgical benefits to patients, including in-network and out-of-network coverage.
Determine when prior authorization is required and obtain the necessary authorizations and surgical clearances.
Request and review payer fee schedules for surgical procedures.
Contact insurance companies through payer portals and phone calls to resolve benefit and authorization concerns.
Document benefits, authorizations, and clearances in Dr. Chrono and HST.
Communicate with patients in clear, professional, easy-to-understand English.
Assist with surgery scheduling when needed.
Qualifications
Hands-on experience with surgical authorizations and insurance benefits verification.
Solid understanding of in-network vs. out-of-network benefits.
Ability to determine when prior authorization is required for a surgical procedure.
Experience using insurance payer portals, particularly Availity and UHC, and handling payer calls.
Strong spoken and written English, with a clear, neutral accent and the ability to communicate confidently with US patients.
Patient, warm, and professional communication skills, especially when assisting older patients.
Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills.
Willingness to learn practice-specific workflows and terminology.
Dependable, professional, and committed to maintaining HIPAA compliance.

Important: This is a specialized role. Applicants must have relevant hands-on experience with surgical authorizations and insurance benefits. General healthcare VA experience alone may not be sufficient.
