Schedule: 8:00 AM - 4 PM or 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM EST
Rate: $13+/Hour
Key Responsibilities:
  • Take full ownership of the month-end close process for an assigned portfolio of multifamily properties
  • Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, reclasses, and other accounting adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Deliver timely, accurate, and decision-ready financial statement packages for leadership and stakeholders
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends and variances, and provide meaningful explanations for unusual activity
  • Present financial performance and key findings during internal and stakeholder review meetings
  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations for assigned properties while maintaining exceptional accuracy and organization
  • Perform cash management activities, including cash funding analysis, account monitoring, and cash transfers
  • Investigate and resolve banking discrepancies, unmatched transactions, and unusual account activity
  • Record recurring accounting entries, management fees, vacancy adjustments, allocations, and other portfolio-specific transactions
  • Ensure all supporting documentation remains organized, complete, and audit-ready
  • Allocate corporate, shared-service, and vendor expenses across multiple entities and properties
  • Prepare intercompany billings, reconciliations, and related accounting entries
  • Review financial activity for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with internal accounting standards
  • Validate utility, vendor, and operational expense postings to ensure proper classification and reporting
  • Identify process improvements that strengthen controls, improve efficiency, and reduce risk
  • Partner with operations, property management, and leadership teams to resolve accounting issues and support informed business decisions
  • Respond to stakeholder questions regarding financial performance, reporting, and account activity
  • Support process improvements, system implementations, and special accounting projects as the portfolio continues to grow
Non-negotiables:
  • Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or equivalent accounting-related experience
  • 3+ years of multifamily property accounting experience managing the full accounting cycle across multiple properties
-Strong understanding of US GAAP and accrual-based accounting principles
  • Proven month-end close experience, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Advanced bank reconciliation and general ledger accounting experience
  • Experience preparing and analyzing Profit & Loss Statements, Balance Sheets, supporting schedules, and other financial reports
  • Strong understanding of intercompany accounting, allocations, and portfolio-level accounting processes
  • Advanced Excel or Google Sheets proficiency, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, financial analysis, and data validation
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to independently identify and resolve discrepancies
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple properties, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Proactive and confident communicator who asks questions, seeks clarity, and takes initiative when information is missing
  • Experience using property management accounting platforms such as AppFolio, Yardi, RealPage, PeopleSoft, or similar systems
  • Proven ability to consistently meet deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability for the quality of financial reporting

  • Experience supporting large multifamily portfolios or multiple legal entities
  • Experience presenting financial information to executives, owners, or investors
  • Experience with process improvement initiatives, workflow optimization, or accounting automation projects
  • Experience supporting acquisitions, portfolio growth, or property transitions
  • Aspiration to grow into Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller-level responsibilities
